Upside down banana cake


Upside down cake with banana.

We already made this cake a few times and it never gets bored. You can make this cake not only with banana but also with other fruits like pineapple, apple, pear etc.
We really love this cake and we thought you guys might like this too. Once again very easy to make but yet so delicious! Let’s begin…


For the topping

50 gram melted butter
30 gram of brown sugar
6 bananas (ripe) cut them lengthwise

For the cake

125 gram soft butter
220 gram of brown sugar
2 eggs  lightly beaten
185 gram self-rising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 large bananas (mashed)


– Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
– Cover baking pan with parchment paper.
– Pour the melted butter in the pan and sprinkle brown sugar evenly over butter.
– Arrange banana slices on brown sugar.
– Beat the butter and brown sugar till you get this fluffy texture.
– While mixing slowly add the eggs with the sugar and butter.
– Sift the flour and baking powder and add it to the cake mix, stir with a spatula.
– Add the mashed banana and then pour the batter over the sliced bananas.
– Bake the cake for 45 minutes.

Below a picture of a upside down cake with pineapple. First time ever we made this, so it doesn’t look very good yet *mode on: shy* .  We need to practice more, we know hihi.

Note: for this cake you will need an other cake mix. If you would like to have this recipe feel free to ask us.

  1. Am going to try this one this weekend, but with a chocolate cake – can not wait! I also make pineapple upside down cake very often. Try placing a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple ring and in the “corners” where the rings meet – decorative and delicious (~.^). Happy baking and also loved your Churro recipe! ^o^

    • Hii Yonni! Oh wow with chocolate cake, definitely delicious, cause we love chocolate! Yum! We are going to try that too, thanks for the idea. Yes next time when we are going to bake a upside down cake with pineapple again we will try to decorate it better putting a cherry in the centre. Looks more beautiful, thanks for the advice 😀

    • Yes! Your recipe is very old school – right down to the cast iron pan and the pecans… LOVE it! ! ! We used to do a very similar recipe back in the ’70’s – will have to try again! ^o^

    • @cewinta and @trkingmomoe – I finally got around to trying this recipe WITH the chocolate cake. I also used a large cast iron skillet and added a little cinnamon with the brown sugar and butter before arranging the bananas and maraschino cherries – DELICIOUS ! ! ! I do not know how to attach images here, but it is ok because the pics I took were not as good as the cake! 🙂

  2. I love the idea of using bananas for an upside-down cake! I made a banana pineapple upside down cake several years ago and it was a delicious combination and the bananas made the cake really moist! Will definitely try this recipe!
