Dubai

Duurste Hotel pose

Dubai, with all his luxury and beauty.

We went to Dubai a few weeks ago, and we fell in LOVE with this amazing city!

Dubai is located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is one of the 7 emirates that makes the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The others are: Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm AlQuwain, Ras al-Khaimah. But Dubai is the most popular city in the UAE and the fastest growing city in the world!

We spend a few days in this beautiful city. We just can not believe that Dubai was once a dessert if you see all the buildings, skyscrapers etc. Dubai became very popular by tourist from all over the world, because of the many large construction projects and sport events. They currently keep on building and developing this city 24 hours nonstop, also for the upcoming expo 2020! So you will probably not recognize Dubai if you are going back again in a few years.

We LOVE Dubai of its cultural diversity! Nationalities from all over the world who are living there.
This city has a LOT to offer, from many international restaurants to, attractions, shopping and nightlife. Really, there’s nothing you can not find and see in this city!
Oh yeah ..Police riding in ferraris or lamborghini’s its normal 😀 .

We had a few days in UAE, and we wanted to make sure to see all the main attractions in Dubai. But can you do that also in a few hours?  Yes, it is possible!
Just book a tour, which provide you with a personal guide. And after that explore Dubai on your own. And that’s what we did .

We booked a 4 hour tour in Dubai at Private Tour . So if you consider to do this, ask for Shah! An incredible, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive guide, speaks many languages and who can tell you all about Dubai! We also did a tour to Abu Dhabi with our great guide Sameh, but we will write more about this trip in our next post. We really recommend this private tour to everyone, you won’t regret!

Some of our favorite attractions in Dubai:

Burj Khalifa

The tallest building in the world! For most visitors a trip to the observation deck on the 124th floor here is a must-do while in the city.

Opening hours: Daily 8:30am-1am
Location: Entry from Dubai Mall, Sheikh Zayed Road, Downtown
Official site: http://www.burjkhalifa.ae/en/

Dubai Fountain

The world’s tallest performing fountain, which is a must see!! Located at the Dubai Mall.

Dubai Creek

Separates the city into two towns with Deira to the north and Bur Dubai to the south. To travel across the creek you can take an abra (small wooden ferry) between the ferry points on the creek’s Bur Dubai and Deira banks.

Deira

Deira is located on the northern bank of Dubai Creek, and is most famous for its traditional souks(markets). Perfect place to buy some souvenirs and go to the spice and gold souk, you will love it here!

Dubai Mall

Shopping paradise for the shopaholics out there!
Here you will also find the Dubai Aquarium, Waterfall and the ice rink.

Burj al-Arab

The world’s tallest (321 m high), most expensive, luxurious and the only 7 star hotel in the world! You can make pictures at the beach with Burj al-Arab in the background.

Palm Island

Visit the Atlantis Hotel

Dubai Marina

Here you can find  some great cafés and restaurants along the waterfront. With an incredible view of boats and building. Dubai Marina is really beautiful especially in the evenings.

  1. Well, you got a GT86 in the frame. It would have been great if there were more supercars and hypercars. Dubai is all about the roads cars and that’s it… 😛

    • Hello Maryshoobridge, thank you for your comment! We really understand your point of view of Dubai. First we thought also..Dubai it’s too much glamour/glitter/modern for our taste. Cause we love the old/traditional side of a country too, as you can see in our other travel post. But if you actually visit this city, you will be amazed as we did. This city is a mix of old traditional and modern..its just that the modern part of dubai is always in the media 🙂 .

    • Hello Sarah, thank you so much! You should def visit this beautiful Dubai. Haha..long list of places to visit? We have the same problem hihi..Whats your next destination? 🙂

      • Southern Indiana to move the rest of our things up to Wisconsin, then to Pennsylvania to visit Paul’s family – though our next bigger trip is up to Boston to watch some football!

  5. Abu Dhabi and Dubai both look like very beautiful places. I don’t think that you went to very nice restaurants, though, because the food looks, um, well, um….never mind. The gold leaf and painted flowers on the columns are really nice, and so is that giant pool. Can anyone actually swim in it, though?

    • Hi Randyjw, both places are beautiful & unique ! Dubai for the glitter glamour, Abu Dhabi for the more traditional atmosphere :). Haha the food looks ..? , what we can say is..the food was really delicious hihi. The grand mosque in Abu Dhabi is magnificent! And that giant “pool”..you can’t swim in it. Even though its very tempting to jump in the water on a very hot day haha!

      • Thank you both for your replies. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the food, after all. Not every place one travels will they find food to their liking, but the joy is, rather, in the exploration of the culture, in any case. Tis an added benefit, though. It is a shame about the pool, but I didn’t suppose it was for use. Modesty issues likely pertain to being seen publicly in a bathing suit of Wesyern-style (and most of the touring/vacationing “classes”). They should make secluded indoor or outdoor places for people of either sex to swim at; those countries seem to be rather hot, and it might help cool things off a bit!
